Elon Musk is obsessed with asking the right question but finding the right question isn’t always easy. In fact, that’s the hard part what really matters is trying to understand the right questions to ask and I think if you can explain the why of things then that makes a huge difference to people’s motivation. They understand the purpose. So, I decided to take a look into what makes Elon Musk’s questions that are usually super simple and cut straight to the point.
Just take a look at one of the most typical interview questions, when I interview somebody, my interview question is always the same. I said, tell me the story of your life and the decisions that you made along the way and why you made them. And that’s one of the things that Musk does so well. He gets to the truth of the matter with simplicity. In fact, he usually asks this follow-up question not only is it simple but this also happens to be the best way to find out if someone is lying or not.
The problem is that anyone can respond to a question with anything and when it comes to interviews, people can simply claim that they’re the best at what they do so it can be hard if not impossible to know whether they’re telling the truth or not.
Clarity of thoughts & Simplicity
Musk’s solution to this problem is powerful in its simplicity and it goes like this and also tells me about some of the most difficult problems you worked on. And how you solved them and that question I think is very important because the people that really solve the problem, they know exactly how they solved it.
They know the little details and the people that pretended to solve the problem can maybe go one level and then get stuck but the truth is musk has been asking questions like these for quite some time. When I was a kid I was wondering kind of what’s the meaning of life like why are we here,and what’s it all about and I came to the conclusion that what really matters is trying to understand. The right questions to ask and the more that we can increase the scope and scale of human consciousness, the better we are able to ask these questions. This is what Elon musk is about. It’s all about clarity of thought and simplicity. So, regardless of whatever side of the table you’re sitting on just keep it simple foreign.
